MTP offers NVQ, HNC/HND

We have recently completed the validation process for HNC/HND with Liverpool John Moores University, and will offer programmes under their accredition from January 2010

There a currently four routed to officer qualifications and certification:

NVQ Marine Vessel Operations

HNC/HND Nautical Studies

Foundation Degree Nautical Studies

BSc Honours Marine Studies

Maritime Training (Plymouth) at present offers candidates the Edexcel NVQ and HND routes.

We are currently completing a validation process for HNC/HND with Liverpool John Moores University , and will offer programmes under their accredition from Autumn 2009.

A Foundation Degree Nautical Studies is being developed for validation Spring 2010.

Students will have access to the BSc Nautical Studies at LJMU on completion of either of these programmes.

The following statement has been recieved from MNTB regarding NVQ programmes.

It has been agreed with IAMI, the MCA and ourselves that no enrolments (of UK nationals and EEA nationals normally resident in the UK) can be undertaken for anyone to commence this programme as an MNTB approved programme providing access to SMarT funding, effectively as of now.

HNC/HND programmes combine college phases with periods at sea to gain competence by applying the college training in the workplace.

Successful completion of the HNC (HND Part 1) allows candidates to progress to the Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competence, and HND to gain a Chief Mate Certificate of Competence, provided acceptable sea service is gained prior to each certificate.
