Offshore Energy

 

The development of offshore renewable energy technology has resulted in an increase in the number of Jack-up barges and support vessels operating worldwide.
For the last twelve months, Maritime Training (Plymouth) have worked with the International Association of Jack-Up Barge Operators, Health & Safety Executive, Maritime & Coastguard Agency and insurance companies to develop a training scheme for personnel involved in the construction and maintenance of offshore installations.
The programme is two-phase :

Phase 1

1 week Basic Safety Training (complies with IMO STCW ’95 requirements)
Basic Fire-fighting
Elementary First Aid
Personal Survival techniques
1 week Induction
Barges – types, operations, deployment
Safety – Awareness, Risk assessment, equipment, evacuation, hygiene, Pollution prevention
Law – individual responsibilities, International Codes / Regulations, Discipline / Orders, Records / Logs

A period of 6 months working on barge operations is suggested between Phases

Phase 2

3 weeks

Meteorology, Charts / Chartwork, Tides, Electronic Navigation Systems
Vessel Stability
Foundations
Barge Stability (Jacked)
Practical Management of barges / Support Vessels, Resource Management,
General maintenance, Fault Diagnosis,
Boat handling

Trainees will have access to a barge and support vessels during the training programme.
