Security Courses

In recent years the increase in acts of piracy, theft and attacks on ships in all parts of the world has given rise to an awareness that crew need to be more alert and better prepared to deal with such incidents. An act of terrorism against a fully laden super-tanker, an oil rig or chemical carrier could cause heavy fatalities and do untold environmental damage.

We have developed a course that looks at:

  • Recent history of incidents, using up to date reporting
  • International conventions, proposals etc.
  • Psychology of the attacker/terrorist
  • Surveying a vessel to determine how security could be improved
  • Technology, alarms, communication systems
  • Preparation of ship's orders to deal with an incident

and will include:

  • Demonstration of weapons used by attackers
  • An exercise, boarding of a training vessel by a commando unit
  • The commando unit demonstrating how to react as the ship's crew

NB: These demonstrations are conducted under strictest safety guidelines, no live ammunition is used, and no counter attack/aggression is advocated in dealing with persons who have seized the vessel.
